What's going to happen in 2017

Dec 5 2016

2016 has been an exciting, productive and invigorating year for us here at WinterGrass farm. I am excited with the progress we have made and everything we have been able to accomplish. A large part of the year was spent setting up the farm so that we could meet the state requirements for getting our NYS Permit for Raw Milk Sales (which we did!) and so that we could efficiently run our grazing systems for both the dairy herd and the beef herd.

While 2016 was largely spent on setting up the farm, my goal for 2017 is to work on improving the experience for our loyal customers who come out to the farm. Here are some of the things I have in mind:

1. We will be setting up a farm store to better suit our customers. This will include being able to selfserve and buy products if we are not around. (since for now it is just Hannah and I running the farm we are not always able to man the store. Chores and looking after the animals still takes a good bit of time.)

2. We will be setting up a better e-mail newsletter with either bimonthly or monthly newsletters to keep everyone up on what's happening here at the farm.

3. A weekly video about different aspects of the farm, such as bringing in the cows for milking, or moving the beef herd to a new paddock. The goal is to give you an insight into what is involved with raising the animals that eventually end up on your plate, and some of the "why" we do stuff. I've been wanting to do this for a while so I'm excited about this one.

4. As a bonus it looks like we will be teaming up with Jason Townsend of Redwing Farm to offer some products out of our farm store. Jason is setting up a 10 acre, going organic, market garden AND fruits (apples and more!) right next to us! He offers a vegetable CSA and will also be selling organically raised vegetables out of our farm store. The apple trees take a few years to grow but expect that at some point to!

I also plan to be much more active with this blog, so I hope you will follow us here. If there are topics you would like to learn more about or questions you might have about anything related to the farm leave a comment or send me an e-mail and we'll make it a blog or video topic.

As always thank you to our many customers who have made this farm venture possible! It is an pleasure to be able to provide you all with high quality, nutritious foods that help you to look after your own health, and to raise healthy families. May 2017 treat you well and we look forward to being a part of that! Check out my first video below!
